ARMYBASSANGLERS PRO DAVID BEHM COMPETES IN THE TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS—HOOAH!
The region 2 Anglers Choice Championship was held at Lake Mead this year and included some of the best fisherman from CO, NM, AZ, NV, Southern CA ArmyBassAnglers Pro Dave Behm and his partner wear counted among the best!
Behm would begin the event by drawing boat #2 for the Saturday launch with a 1400 weigh in time and then had the reverse draw for Sunday, being the second to last boat out and having a 1430 weigh in time. Behm conducted his pre-combat checks on all his Castaway rods and Ardent reels in preparation for a quick and meaningful morning top water bite and then in the afternoon a deep water slow bite.
Dave had already pre-fished two times during the week and had located some fish that were plentiful but not the big hogs that could win the event. The plan of attack was to get a quick limit of small fish and then spend the rest of the day looking for the elusive kicker fish that could put them near the top.

Well, half of that story was accomplished when Behm went to his first spot and started throwing buzzbaits and phoenix vibrating jigs. Within the hour Dave had a limit of 5 fish and was gradually culling ounces at a time before the morning bite ended. During the afternoon Behm started dragging a Carolina Rig with a LFT 6” Hyper Worm around drop offs on main lake points that he identified with his side imaging. At around mid day a good smallmouth struck the Carolina rig but it still wasn’t the big fish they were looking for but made a good cull releasing a 1 pound fish and replacing it with a 2 pound fish.
During the weigh in Dave had a fairly good weight of 9 lbs and was in 7th place out of the 48 teams.
Sunday would be a completely different scenario. Behm launched on Sunday in the 46th position and he arrived at his first spot he was having difficulty getting any keeper fish. The fish were active except that they were all 8-10 inches big, well short of the minimum size to keep. During the entire day Dave continued with the pattern that worked for him the previous day but could not find the quality fish.
Just before weigh in Dave threw a JaROD Jig in green pumpkin with a little purple mixed in and caught his only keeper of the day weighing close to 3 lbs. Sunday was a tough day for a lot of the teams with many only bringing in 1 or 2 fish. Behm’s final weight for the event was a little over 11 pounds and finished in 14th place out of 48 teams.
“It was a tough tournament and the winners came in with just a little over 20 lbs, but I was able to accomplish the most important mission I had for the weekend and that was raise awareness for Returning Heroes Home, Heroes on the Water, Veteran Outdoors and LSPVA—HOOAH!”
